1. location and traits

Jeju island is an southwestern island in Korea. It is a largest island of Korea, accounting for 1.9% of the whole country, and it has the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. It performs very important role as not only a major transportation point with Korea, China and Japan, also politically, economically, and militarily since its location between the Yellow Sea and East China Sea.
Jeju island has a oval shape centering around Hanra mountain, slightly sloping to 73km to east and west, 41km to north and south. Its coastal road is 181km long and coastal line is 258km long. Jeju island is the warm temperate zone so that its temperature hardly drops below freezing even when winter comes. Hanra mountain, Seoungsan Ilchulbong(sunrise peak), Geomun Orum are acknowledged of their importance by Unesco and registered to World Heritage with a name of Jeju volcanic island and lava cave, in june, 2007.
Jeju island shows unique spectacle of volcanic one. The central mountain Hanra, forests and valleys with various animals and plants, parasitic volcanos and craters, caves and meadows... These natural landscapes are just gift of nature. What's more, the seashore all around the island shows us curious rocks, waterfalls, sandy beach and small islands.

2. Climate

Jeju island is on the Korea's southernmost sea. Because of the warm current of its coast, it has the typical warm oceanic climate. But there's Hanra mountain in the center of the island, so there's huge temperature difference between north part and south part. Its temperature is mostly high, recorded 16℃ of annual average, 33.5℃ of summer average, and its average temperature is 1℃ even in coldest January. Especially in Seogwipo(southern part) is warmest area in Jeju island, thanks to Hanra mountain blocking the cold northwester.
Jeju island's annual average precipitation is 1,440mm(Jeju-si), 1,688mm(Seogwipo-si), so it is rather moistful. The hilly and mountainous area(3000m) is rather a region with a greater deal of precipitation, affected by its geographical feature. But over the half of precipitation fell between middle of June and July, so called rainy season, so the rest of that season, you can travel Jeju pleasantly.
